Almost everyone who rides a motorcycle has dreamed, at some point, of dropping everything and riding around the world on two wheels. Andr\u00e9s Sile, a rider from Sanl\u00facar in his early thirties, is one of the few who’s actually dared to do it. Since June 2024 he’s been crossing the planet on his Aprilia Tuareg 660, and his journey already adds up to more than two years and dozens of countries. If you don’t know him yet, let us introduce him \u2014 and tell you why at Gas&Fun we feel his adventure is a little bit our own too.<\/p>\n

Who is Andr\u00e9s Sile?<\/h2>\n

His name is Andr\u00e9s Jim\u00e9nez, though everyone knows him by his traveler name, Andr\u00e9s Sile. He’s a photographer, born and raised in Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda (C\u00e1diz). Before getting on the bike he had an office job that, as he’s said himself, ended up boring him: tired of dreaming about adventure without actually living it, he decided to leave everything behind and make his hometown the starting point of a one-of-a-kind journey.<\/p>\n

A starting point steeped in history<\/h2>\n

On June 16, 2024, he set off from Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda on an Aprilia Tuareg 660 loaded up to 300 kilos (with reinforced suspension to handle the weight) and a tent as his only roof. It’s not a starting point chosen at random: Sanl\u00facar was the port from which the Magellan-Elcano expedition sailed and to which it returned more than 500 years ago, the first circumnavigation of the globe in history. Andr\u00e9s wants to complete his own version of that feat \u2014 this time on a motorcycle.<\/p>\n

A route that’s already close to two laps around the planet<\/h2>\n

Since leaving Andalusia, Andr\u00e9s has crossed Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and China, continued through Southeast Asia (Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand), and from there shipped the bike to North America: Alaska, Canada, the United States and Mexico, including a stretch through Baja California. Last week he was already in El Salvador, making his way into Central America.<\/p>\n

The road hasn’t exactly been comfortable. In interviews and podcasts, Andr\u00e9s has described moments as extreme as being questioned by Russian security services while crossing the country, air-raid sirens, encounters with forced-labor camps, or having to navigate bribes in Laos \u2014 the kind of stories you only get when the journey is real, not a postcard version of one.<\/p>\n

Bound for Route 66… with his father<\/h2>\n

And there’s a special stop coming up: in his latest video, published this very week on his YouTube channel, Andr\u00e9s announced that he’s going to ride the legendary Route 66 in the United States… together with his father. A short stretch of company, after more than two years riding almost entirely alone, that promises to be one of the most emotional chapters of the whole trip.<\/p>\n

More than two years on the road, hundreds of thousands following along<\/h2>\n

Andr\u00e9s documents every stretch of the trip on YouTube, where he uploads a new video every Sunday, and on Instagram (@andres_sile), where he’s already gathered more than 240,000 followers. Several brands in the industry have signed on as sponsors to help him sustain an adventure that, in his own words, runs mostly on about 30 euros a day, a lot of camping, and a fair amount of common sense.<\/p>\n
